Ibiza is the only place on this list whose prestige runs on a calendar rather than a coastline. The season opens in late May and closes in the first days of October, and the closing parties — not the openings — are the ones people rearrange a month around.
Underneath the club economy is a second island: the north, the private villas, the boat. What changed recently is the supply. From 1 July 2025 Spanish holiday lets must display an official licence number, and enforcement has been severe — Spain ordered more than 65,000 unlicensed listings removed nationwide, and Ibiza’s holiday-rental supply fell by close to half over 2025. Scarcity in Ibiza is now partly an administrative fact, which is a strange thing to say about an island famous for excess, and it is the single most useful thing to understand before booking.
