Entry mechanism in full: Visa on arrival. INZ says an ABTC lets the holder 'travel to New Zealand without first applying for a visa' and 'get a visa on arrival in New Zealand', for up to 3 months at a time for trade and investment activities.

Where the old record is wrong

Every widely published ABTC airport list descends from one APEC document whose data is from March 2007. These are the points where that document no longer describes New Zealand.

The 2007 baseline predates automated border control in New Zealand entirely. NZ Customs now operates eGates at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. The eGate page never mentions the ABTC, and eGate eligibility is by ePassport nationality, which excludes Brunei and Papua New Guinea passports. source 1 source 2
The 2007 baseline places Auckland's and Christchurch's APEC lanes in the arrival hall. Immigration New Zealand's current wording is bidirectional, 'use dedicated APEC immigration clearance lanes on arrival and departure', so departures are covered at economy level even though the 2007 per-airport detail said arrivals. source 1 source 2 source 3
Queenstown is absent from the 2007 baseline but is today one of New Zealand's official immigration control areas and has eGates. No source was found naming an APEC lane at Queenstown; it is an unresolved candidate, not an addition. source 1 source 2
Lane existence is confirmed at economy level: an INZ news item of 5 December 2025 states cardholders 'benefit from fast-track immigration lanes at major airports', and the inbound visa page confirms 'dedicated APEC immigration clearance lanes'. What catches people out

INZ explicitly warns the fast-track is immigration-only: 'There are no dedicated biosecurity clearance lanes for APEC Business Travel Cardholders entering New Zealand.' NZ biosecurity is the slow step, so the practical time saving is smaller than in other economies.
An eGate is not the APEC lane. NZ Customs eGates are at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, and eligibility is by ePassport nationality; Brunei and Papua New Guinea passports are not eligible, so ABTC holders from those economies must use the manual or APEC lane.
The 2007 APEC source describes Christchurch's APEC lane as shared with aircrew and Auckland's as a clearly marked lane in the arrival hall. That is unverified for 2026.
Queenstown has official eGates but has never appeared on any APEC lane list.
Applying for another New Zealand visa can cancel the ABTC; the APEC table's 'Effect of Additional Visa Application' column reads 'ABTC cancelled' for NZ.
