Venture Trip Split Get the app

For the group trip

Who owes whom, untangled.

Log what everyone paid, in any currency. Trip Split nets it all out, so the group settles up in a few transfers instead of a tangle of IOUs. Anyone with the link can add to it.

Free, no sign-up. You get one link for the group, and anyone who has it can add and remove expenses.

Venture, the app

Settled. Now keep the trip.

Venture turns everywhere you have been into a world map, a passport that fills itself and a rank among travellers. Group trips live there too, with this same ledger.

The Venture app: a traveller ranked No. 21, with 17 countries and 6 continents on a glowing globe.

How the maths works

  1. Netted, then settled

Each person’s payments are netted against their share. The biggest debt is paid into the biggest credit until everyone is at zero, so each currency settles in at most one payment fewer than the people in it.

  2. Currencies never mix

Baht dinners and a dollar hotel settle as two separate ledgers. Trip Split never invents an exchange rate, so every number is right in its own currency.

  3. Exact to the cent

Amounts are kept in whole cents. When a bill doesn’t divide evenly, the spare cents go to the first names alphabetically, so every phone shows the same answer.

Questions

Is it free?
Yes. There is no account to create and nothing to pay.
Does everyone need an app?
No. Anyone with the link can view the split and add expenses from any browser, phone or computer.
How does Trip Split handle different currencies?
Each currency settles on its own. Trip Split never converts between currencies or invents an exchange rate, so every amount is exact in the currency it was paid in.
Who can see my split?
Only people who have its link. Split pages aren’t listed or indexed by search engines. Anyone with the link can add and remove expenses, so keep it to the group.
What if I lose the link?
The browser you used keeps a list of your recent splits on this page. Otherwise ask someone in the group to send it again. There is no account to recover it from.
