HaveYouMet ("we," "our," or "us") operates the HaveYouMet mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our App.
By downloading, installing, or using HaveYouMet, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account Registration Data: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, date of birth, and gender identity.
- Profile Information: Photos, biographical text, and dating preferences (such as age range and gender preferences) that you voluntarily add to your profile.
- Communications: Messages and content you send to other users through the App's in-app messaging feature.
- Authentication Credentials: If you sign in using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In, we receive a unique user identifier and, depending on your settings, your name and email address. We do not receive or store your Apple ID or Google account password.
- Support Communications: Information you provide when contacting us for customer support, including your email address and the content of your inquiry.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the App, including swipe activity (likes and passes), match history, messaging activity, and features accessed.
- Device Information: Device type, model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Log Data: Access times, pages or screens viewed, app crashes, and other system activity.
2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Precise geolocation data (GPS coordinates)
- Contacts or address book data
- Financial or payment information
- Browsing history outside of the App
- Data from other apps on your device
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide the Service: To create and manage your account, display your profile to potential matches, and facilitate connections between users.
- Enable Matching: To show you profiles based on your stated preferences (age range, gender) and to process your swipe decisions.
- Facilitate Communication: To enable real-time messaging between mutually matched users.
- Improve the App: To understand how users interact with the App, identify issues, and develop new features and improvements.
- Safety and Security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues.
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests.
4. Data Storage and Security
We take the security of your data seriously. Your information is stored and processed using the following safeguards:
- Infrastructure: All data is stored on Supabase, a trusted cloud infrastructure provider, with servers protected by industry-standard security measures.
- Encryption: All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS protocols.
- Access Controls: Row Level Security (RLS) policies are enforced at the database level, ensuring that users can only access data they are authorized to view.
- Authentication: We use secure, token-based authentication through Apple Sign In and Google Sign In. We never store your third-party account passwords.
- Photo Storage: Profile photos are stored in secure, access-controlled storage buckets with authenticated access only.
While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Ever.
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With Other Users: Your profile information (first name, photos, bio, and age) is visible to other users of the App as an essential part of the dating experience. Your email address is never shared with other users.
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party service providers to operate and maintain the App. These providers have access to your information only as necessary to perform their services and are obligated to protect your data. Our current providers include:
- Supabase — Database, authentication, and file storage
- Apple — Authentication via Sign In with Apple
- Google — Authentication via Google Sign In
- Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of HaveYouMet, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the App or email before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

7. Data Retention
- Active Accounts: Your personal data is retained for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide you with the App's services.
- Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account at any time. Upon deletion, we will permanently remove your profile information, photos, messages, matches, preferences, and all associated data from our systems within 30 days.
- Legal Retention: We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, such as fraud prevention, even after account deletion. Any retained data will be anonymized where possible.
- Inactive Accounts: Accounts that have been inactive for more than 12 months may be flagged for review and potential deletion, with prior notice sent to your registered email address.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to Restrict Processing: Request that we limit the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances.
- Right to Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw your consent for data processing at any time by deleting your account.
- Right to Object: Object to the processing of your personal data for certain purposes.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Legal Basis for Processing: We process your data based on: (a) your consent, (b) the necessity to perform our contract with you (providing the App's services), (c) our legitimate interests (improving the App, ensuring security), and (d) compliance with legal obligations.
- Data Transfers: Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the EEA. Where such transfers occur, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with GDPR requirements.
- Supervisory Authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.
11. Children's Privacy
HaveYouMet is intended exclusively for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from anyone under the age of 18.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 18 years of age, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and terminate the associated account. If you believe that a user under 18 has created an account, please contact us at privacy@haveyoumet.app.
12. Notifications
With your permission, we may send you push notifications related to matches, messages, and App updates. You can manage your notification preferences at any time through your device settings. Disabling notifications will not affect the core functionality of the App.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
- Notify you through the App or via email for significant changes.
- Where required by law, obtain your consent before applying material changes.
Your continued use of the App after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
